Both Denmark and Albany riders shared the podium at the 2023 Rockcliffe Classic
held on Sunday 26 November.
Set amongst the rolling hills and bushland of the Rockcliffe Winery property, just five
minutes from Denmark, the Cross Country Mountain Bike event saw riders
competing several laps of the undulating course in near perfect conditions.
For many Junior and Senior Riders, it was their first time competing in a competitive
mountain bike event. Racing kicked off at 1.30pm with the Junior Event, Beau Sobey
was the Under 13 and overall winner, with Tate Eckersley taking out the Under 11
Category.
The Senior race followed. Local shredder Jy Drummond stepped up to the Senior
event this year and dominated the Under 15 category with a win. The Womens A
grade class was won by Karis Aplin. And in the Mens A Grade event, the race for
first was between Albany riders Brett Dal Pozzo and Vince Bascombe, with Dal
Pozzo pulling awaying in the final lap.
Local Denmark Riders Colin Ross and Claire Warburton took out the E-bike Male
and Female categories.
Club President Brad Drummond said “We have seen an increase in mountain bike
participation amongst juniors, women and men in the local Denmark Community.
The Rockcliffe Classic is a great opportunity for riders to experience competitive
racing in a fun, family friendly environment. We had a number of riders competing for
the first time and the feedback we received was positive across the board.”
